of Peer Consulting Sessions
Syracuse, New York
The city of Syracuse, New York developed its own citizen
based planning process entitled Tomorrow’s Neighborhoods Today (TNT).
City staff provided Syracuse with various
planning materials, hands-on training and mentoring to initiate their
own citizen participation process.
Des Moines Iowa
Through the Annie E. Casey Foundation's Making Connections
Initiative, the City of Rochester provided
peer consulting to the City of Des Moines, Iowa. Rochester was selected for its
innovative approach to engaging citizens in the NBN and Neighborhood
Empowerment Team (NET) Processes. A delegation of key City Staff and
neighborhood Sector representatives traveled to the city of Des Moines
to conduct a two-day workshop with Des Moines City Staff and
neighborhood representatives. Presentations and group
discussions provided an opportunity for the two communities to come together
to share experiences, best practices, tools, and resources for replicating
similar processes.
Newark, New Jersey
A delegation from the Newark, New Jersey Newark Leadership Initiative
visited Rochester for a two-day, hands-on training and tour of the
Rochester community. The group selected Rochester as an effective model for
citizen participation that could be replicated in the City of Newark.
Delegates received an overview of the NBN Process -- from planning to
implementation; participated in a seminar on
Neighborhood Capacity Building and Resources; toured city neighborhoods
and received an overview of Rochester's
housing initiatives.
